Play Isn't a Break From Learning. It's How Learning Happens.
"All they do is play."
It's a sentence many preschool teachers hear, often from well-meaning adults who expect learning to look like books, pencils, and worksheets.
But spend a few minutes watching children at play, and you'll see something very different.
A group building a house with blocks isn't just stacking pieces—they're planning, solving problems, sharing ideas, and learning what happens when things don't go as expected.
Two children pretending to run a grocery store are counting, taking turns, asking questions, and using new words without even realising they're learning.
This is the beauty of play.
For young children, play is how they make sense of the world. It helps them think, communicate, imagine, and build relationships.
Through play, they learn to cooperate, make decisions, express emotions, and develop confidence in their own abilities.
